Leg 6: Caribbean Cruising

Image description

The Caribbean.

Clear blue waters teaming with exotic fish and rich in coral reefs; picture-perfect sandy beaches fringed by palms whose 45-degree angle of heel provides welcome shade from the tropical sun; rickety rum-shacks, pastel-painted houses, reggae-blasting mini-buses and islanders who know how to enjoy life and take it easy.

For many Europeans sailing an Atlantic circuit, the winter months spent cruising Caribbean islands will be a particular highlight of the whole experience.

We spent about four months in the Caribbean and loved it. The picture on the left shows Gulliver G admiring the view at Salt Whistle Bay on the tiny island of Mayreau, in the St Vincent Grenadines.

Please click the links on the chart below to learn about our experiences of the islands and the passages (not all plain sailing!) between them.

Note: this was the best open-source chart of the Lesser Antilles I could find on the internet and unfortunately it is far from ideal. If you are aware of a clearer chart which I could annotate and publish on Gulliver-G.com, please contact me.
